I’m interested in the visual textures of reflected and refracted light found when observing plants close-up. I connected this interest to the Fort Calgary site by noting how the existence of both native and introduced plant species in the area hints at the human stories there. In creating this painting, I wanted to explore the tension that arises when attempting to use a map (the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers) to arrange the chaotic flora that actually grow on the riverbanks.
